When the pursuit of an activity, substance, object or behavior becomes the primary focus of one’s life, it is generally considered an addiction. The “high” that an individual experiences gives a feeling of well-being and euphoria that often leads to a continuation of the the behavior in spite of negative relational, physical or spiritual consequences.
